Frequently Asked Questions

What are some of the signs of hearing loss?

People may seem to frequently mumble. Key words may be missed in a sentence. Conversations at meetings, or church may be difficult to understand. Family and friends may even complain that the TV is too loud. These are all signs that hearing loss may be present.

If you or someone you care about are experiencing any of these difficulties, then contact us at Brooks Hearing Clinic so that our qualified hearing professionals can help!

What are some of the reasons that people delay getting the help they need?

Denial that a problem exists is the most frequent reason individuals delay getting the help they need. According to the National Council on Aging, even individuals experiencing severe hearing difficulties often delay getting help because of denial. Frequently family, friends, and co-workers report concern and frustration due to difficulties communicating with an individual living with untreated hearing loss. Why miss out on life if help is available?

What Are the Consequences of Untreated Hearing Loss?

Many areas of everyday life become more challenging with untreated hearing loss. Conversations with family and friends, watching TV, phone calls, and enjoying group gatherings become increasingly difficult. The National Council on Aging documented that people with untreated hearing loss were more likely to report decreased social activity, more episodes of sadness and depression, and more episodes of feeling tense, irritable, or anxious. To combat social isolation and diminished quality of life, the National Council On Aging recommends that anyone suspected of having a hearing loss should be encouraged to seek appropriate screening, diagnosis, and treatment. Life is too important to miss. Call us we’re here to help!

What information will I receive during a hearing consultation?

At Brooks Hearing Clinic our qualified hearing professionals will first perform a video-otoscopic examination which will allow you to see if earwax buildup needs to be removed. Puretone and bone conduction thresholds along with word recognition testing will determine the presence of a significant hearing loss. If hearing devices are prescribed, we will thoroughly explain the available hearing device technology. With our help, selecting a hearing system that best suits your needs and lifestyle will be easy. Our risk free trial ensures your total satisfaction. With all of our hearing devices, we offer a lifetime supply of batteries, free cleanings and adjustments, and free hearing screening annually to ensure that your hearing devices provide you with the best possible hearing to enjoy the sounds of life.

Does insurance cover the cost of hearing aids?

Some government and private insurance plans do provide hearing aid benefits. We will assist you in obtaining an estimate of hearing aid benefits from your insurance company. We will also work with you to choose a payment option that fits your finances and lifestyle needs.

If hearing aids are prescribed for me, how long will I have to wait to begin hearing better?

In many cases, our patients leave their initial consultation already hearing better. After being evaluated, many patients choose to be fitted with virtually invisible hearing devices that are amazingly comfortable. Patients and family members love being able to walk out hearing better. Occasionally hearing devices or earmolds must be molded in our laboratory. These are usually ready within 1 to 2 weeks.

How long will a hearing device last?

The usable life of a hearing device depends on a number of factors but the general rule is 5 years. Regular use in environments that are unfriendly to electronic equipment, such as high humidity, dust, or dirt may shorten the life of a hearing device. At Brooks Hearing Clinic, we offer complimentary periodic clean and checks of your hearing devices in order to keep them working properly. Our complimentary annual hearing screening will determine if your current hearing device prescription continues to be adequate or if we need to re-calculate and adjust your hearing device settings in order to ensure your continued hearing success.

How long will hearing aid batteries last?

Most hearing aid batteries last from several days to over a month depending on the type of hearing aid, the size of battery, and the hours of daily use. At Brooks Hearing Clinic, we offer a Batteries For Life program which provides you with fresh batteries which can be picked up at no charge during periodic clean and check visits.

Are payment plans available for hearing device purchases?

As a courtesy to our patients, Brooks Hearing Clinic offers several flexible payment options including no-interest payment plans with approved credit. The application process is quick and easy…getting patients on their way to better hearing. We look forward to helping our patients find the payment method that best suits his or her needs.

If my hearing changes, can my hearing aids be adjusted?

We offer hearing aid adjustments on most makes and models. We recommend our complimentary annual hearing screening that will help determine what adjustments may be appropriate based upon changes in your hearing levels. We want to keep you hearing well!
